Interaction Spaces for Academic Science Buildings

Tips for Location and Configuration

Published October 2006 Foster interaction in your facility with successful planning.

Coffee bars and first-class food eateries are sure-fire interaction features as well as magnets to draw non-science people into science buildings. With the possible exception of eateries and cafes, all other interaction spaces should be interspersed throughout program spaces. Trying to create a separate interaction place where people have to travel to get to it has a high probability of failure. When it comes to movable furniture in interaction areas (social or teaching), remember that small square tables have more configuring options than round tables.
