Tips for Animal Research Building Automation and Technology

Robotics, sensors, and security.

Published November 2006 The details can make all the difference.

We are now seeing the 6th generation of robotic systems, and they work quite well. When installing automated water delivery systems, orient wall-mounted pipe T-connectors as flat against the wall as possible to avoid T-connectors being broken off during rack movement. But beware of ultrasonic occupancy sensors because they cause seizures in certain strains of mice. And as a security strategy, put air handlers and exhaust fans on the roof to make them inaccessible to aggressive activists.
