In the emerging science arena, count on buildings funded for one purpose having to accommodate significant unanticipated programs with very different and exacting technical requirements – example, a nanotechnology building at UCLA now being fit up to house a highly automated, high-throughput, BSL-3 pathogenic disease analysis lab. Plan for it.
