Certification

How does is certification different from commissioning?

Published March 2007 Explore the certification process and what steps your organization can take to prepare for it.

Certification is not commissioning, Certification is doing something for which you get a certificate from someone who counts. This applies to people, equipment, select agent qualifications, and mechanical systems. An important step towards certification is to introduce the “Readiness to Operate Certificate” concept at your institution by assembling a consortium of concerned agencies (e.g. engineering, EHS, security, emergency response, biosafety) to sign off on a “ready-to-operate document”. Arrange for an extensive external review of your facility management and operating plan before you go “hot” for research operations.
