Big projects often involve big ego issues which inject complexities that should be planned for. Identify which people and how to manage in light of their involvement. Sometimes internal engineering groups that are locked into business-as-usual project planning processes are serious obstacles to proper up-front shaping of exceptionally large projects. The Core-Team project model: In organizing for large capital projects, consider the core-team model in which a small core team of people (5-10) carries through for all project phases, while specialist team members cycle in and out of the team over the project life.
