New high-efficiency cage wash systems are now available that, in comparison to the older machines, are 40% less costly to operate and are 60% faster (more through-put). Another efficiency enhancing technology for cage wash and rack operations is to put video cameras linked to large video screens on both sides of the cage and rack washers so operators can see what is happening on the other side and communicate (hand signals) with counterpart operators on the other side. You should not overlook setting specifications for temperature and humidity in cage wash areas to create a comfortable work environment for cage wash workers. Another option is to turn cage wash operations over to a well managed and staffed facility management organization to increase your output and cut labor man-hours.
