Collaboration has become a necessity to do modern science – it is no longer just a P.R. buzz word, but a reality. Public space and interior visibility are not project luxuries, but rather necessary features for modern collaborative science processes. Face-to-face interaction is essential to pushing the frontiers of science forward, and food and drink is almost always a factor in that interaction. Eateries are a necessary feature for collaborative scientific processes.  Projects that are done without them fall short of their collaboration goals, and institutions that exclude them generally find this to have been a project mistake.
