Published July 2006 What will your collaboration space add to project cost, and how can you keep it from getting designed out of the final project?

Count on collaboration features (public spaces of various types and interior visibility) adding $10/sq-ft to construction costs, but this is becoming widely viewed as a necessary element in all new science buildings. Find a way to get an “owner” (such as a Vice President or Provost) for the collaborative features of your building project, otherwise important collaborative features will get designed out of the final program.
