Reduction in funding from government sources puts a premium on recruiting researchers who can attract grants and donations. That makes recruitment features in building projects a good place to invest project dollars. Views are inexpensive recruiting and retention features that can be shared by an infinite number of eyes at no additional cost. Wherever possible, make spacious views to the outside a facility feature. Internal visibility and openness is the new standard for science, and that means lots of interior glass. Especially in colder, darker, northern climates, make bright, warmly lit interiors visible from the outside.
