Thomas Jefferson University is putting major capital funds behind its vision for equipping medical, nursing, and health profession students to work in collaborative, patient-focused teams. Dr. Bob Barchi sets out TJU’s high-level strategic thinking, pedagogy concepts, and criteria for competency development and testing for this new educational initiative. He illustrates key education features of the school’s new Rector Clinical Skills Center, a facility especially designed for teaching patient-focused collaborative processes, and he profiles decision-making rationales and investments for leading-edge simulators, virtual diagnostic and surgical suites, and embedded spaces for teleconferencing, debriefing, and virtual team collaboration.
