Washington University School of Medicine’s BioMed21 initiative laid out bold goals to advance translational science through cross- and multi-disciplinary research. To achieve this meant addressing: 1) Which groups to combine, 2) The governance structure to adopt, 3) Critical group proximities and adjacencies, and 4) The size and shape of core facilities. Dr. Samuel Stanley details the process and rationales for deciding on five key groups to occupy its new Biomedical Research Building and the governance structure for building use and occupancy. He also details decisions on space plans and building features to maximize collaborative research processes and outcomes.
Session Leader:- Dr. Samuel L. Stanley, Jr., Vice Chancellor for Research - Washington University, St. Louis
