Forum Session: Customized models of integration for the academic medical center of the future

A one-size-fits-all approach to integration acknowledges neither an AMC's cultural uniqueness nor its institutional biases; it may in fact impede long-term, mission-based interdependence. Eric Meub and Simon Bruce illustrate and critique three prevailing typologies: the "Quad," "Institute," and "Center of Excellence" models of integration. The partiality inherent in each, towards learning, discovery or healing, necessitates both a roadmap for tailored integration as well as the conceptual framework for transcending these models. Drawing on recent experience at six California campuses, Eric and Simon illustrate a planning methodology for customizing long-term integration.

This session is approved for AIA Continuing Education credit.
