At the heart of all growth initiatives for integrated medical education is a shared resources concept that has big issues to be resolved concerning joint governance of shared facilities. Scott Kelsey and Jon Kanda examine how those issues are being addressed in the new, three-university medical education campus in Phoenix (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health). They illustrate a multi-institution planning methodology for leaping over institution-to-institution organizational barriers, dismantling professional walls between disciplines, lowering capital outlays with resource sharing, increasing space utilization, deciding on a skills-based simulation strategy, and economizing on building operations.
This session is approved for AIA Continuing Education credit. Session Leaders:- Scott P. Kelsey, AIA , Managing Principal - CO Architects
- Jonathan Kanda, AIA, LEED AP , Senior Associate - CO Architects
