The emerging rapid-growth model for medical education involves the innovative use of satellite facilities with linkages to a basic science university. The forging of strong institutional partnerships, a robust distributed distance learning plan, an integrated strategic capital investment program, and a regional economic development component are all critical to the success of this model. Alex Wing and Paul Umbach detail what that those kinds of plans look like, and how they get put together and get "traction." They illustrate the calculations being used for economic development impacts, lower capital investment requirements, and the acceleration of program growth.
