Flexible, functional, and energy-efficient research facilities are achieved by integrating architectural and engineering systems and elements. Michael Reagan and Dave Linamen use several recently completed projects and projects "on-the-boards" to illustrate the integrated planning methodology and examine particular project components that can be shaped to optimize capital cost expenditures, research functionality, and energy usage. They detail planning strategies with vertical and horizontal mechanical distribution systems, methods for integrating mechanical system distribution within labs, techniques for optimizing energy efficiency involving heat gain and loss, alternative building enclosure schemes, and strategies for selecting mechanical systems and controls.
This session is approved by the AIA for continuing education credit. This session also qualifies for HSW credit. Session Leaders:- David R. Linamen, PE , Principal - Burt, Hill
- Michael J. Reagan, AIA , Principal - Burt, Hill
