Forum Session: How to save construction dollars under the new International Building Code fire ratings for labs

Under new changes in the International Building Code (IBC, 2006), you can save a lot of construction dollars that you would otherwise have spent on two-hour containment areas by simply making some informed, innovative decisions about floor plans and research processes that involve the storage and use of hazardous materials in lab buildings. Here, Tom Serruto and Andrew Krueger set out details of the new IBC containment rating requirements as they apply to lab buildings, and they demonstrate the cost saving opportunities of several different creative space planning and operational solutions to hazardous material control.

This session is approved by the AIA for continuing education credit.
This session also qualifies for HSW credit.

Session Leaders:
  • Tom Serruto, NCARB, LEED AP , Technical Leader/Director of Laboratory Design - Austin AECOM
  • Andrew Krueger , Director of Engineering - Aldrich Chemical Company, Inc.
