Novartis transformed a 46,500 m2 candy factory into the $200 million world-class headquarters for Novartis research activities having a capacity for 500+ scientists. The Lab of the Year winner in the category of “Adaptive Reuse” includes a six-story amoeba-shaped atrium that stitches two lab wings together to draw in scientists. You'll view the open and transparent lab environment, including a zebra fish vivarium for functional genomics research. Several 400-MHz NMR devices are located throughout the building, as well as sophisticated vibration isolation systems to compensate for excessive vibrations. You'll see electrical efficiency measures such as high-performance heat recovery, and green features such as rubber containing recycled materials, bamboo flooring, and low VOC (volatile organic carbon) carpets, fabrics, and furniture.
