The application of Lean principles to any part of the facilities function depends on access to robust, high-quality, up-to-date data. Quality data is the basic foundation for identifying Lean opportunities. Here, Raymond Dufresne profiles current state-of-the-art standards and processes for facilities data acquisition, maintenance, and testing, including the assessment of data sources, data collection standards, reliability checking, data maintenance, maintenance frequencies, and the establishment of data quality accountability. He also set out a process for determining levels of detail, appropriate metrics, and data formats to maximize data usefulness for Lean initiatives.
