The 2009 conference has ended - GO TO:

The 2010 International Conference on Biocontainment Facilities

Renaissance Vinoy

St. Petersburg, Florida

March 25-26, 2010

http://www.TradelineInc.com/BIO2010

Biocontainment facilities continue to be a big issue worldwide in 2009-2010.    There will  be more vigorous regulatory oversight for safe and secure biocontainment protocols and operations.  As well, accelerated research and vaccine development to address new varieties of highly infectious pathogens will require more containment facility capacity. And finally, as the high costs of operating biocontainment facilities become clear, institutions will be reexamining facility operating assumptions and aggressively looking for cost-reduction opportunities.

At this conference you’ll learn how organizations are achieving the new objectives and standards for capacity, safety, security, and cost-control with:

• Successful commissioning, validation, and startup strategies
• Proactive plans for increased regulatory oversight for safety & security
• Economical operations with animals – Level 3 and 4. ABSL & BSL-Ag
• Reduced energy use
• More informed decisions on design, construction, and space-upgrades
• New solutions for HVAC, controls, and mechanical systems
• Successful training and retention programs for support staff
• New models for facility operations and maintenance

NOTE: The U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services has just formed the “Trans-federal Task Force on Optimizing Biosafety and Biocontainment Oversight”, and a new U.S. Presidential Executive Order was just issued on January 9th, 2009, “Strengthening Laboratory Biosecurity in the United States.”

*2/9/2009 New Session Added: Dr. Carol Linden, Principal Deputy Director, Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Office of the Asst. Secretary for Preparedness & Response, Dept. of Health & Human Services Oversight will update conference attendees with a report on the progress of the Trans-Federal Task Force on Optimizing Biosafety and Biocontainment (results of the December 8-9 meeting in Washington D.C.), and potential modifications to the current framework of biosafety and biocontainment oversight.

Make sure your institution is represented at this conference to stay on top of the evolving new standards, policies, and procedures for the construction and safe operation of biocontainment facilities.
