Design and schedule decisions for animal facilities have a huge impact on start-up challenges and long-term facility operating models. The new UBC Life Sciences Building animal facility reveals details and nuances of that truth. Kym Sutton sets out the metrics and key design and equipment decisions for a new 10,000-sm vivarium and BSL-3 facility, and she illustrates critical relationships between design and operations. She also examines lesson learned on doing construction in an occupied building, commissioning, and vivarium occupancy plans, and she reports on a special study on animal facilitynoise and recommended solutions.
Session Leader:- Kymberley Sutton , Manager, LSC Vivarium - University of British Columbia
