Saint Mary’s University, Nova Scotia, is half-way through a three-year major renovation of its existing 7,000-sm Applied Science Building and a new 2,400 sm extension. The work is being done while the building remains occupied. David sets out the lessons learned that may help others contemplating similar projects. He outlines planning and dealing with logistical challenges of moving equipment and people. He describes schedule delays related to asbestos issues, the impact on research, and budget. He profiles management solutions, and illustrates features of the new building which will be finished April 2008.
