Biocontainment environments are being constructed at an ever increasing pace, on ever more demanding schedules, and with increasing budget demands. A look into the future of biocontainment is revealing a number of new options that are available now to meet this capacity-time-cost challenge. Jeff Schantz illustrates new biocontainment facility strategies based on “futures” such as modular containment, the use of specific purpose isolators, high-flex ballrooms, and robotic systems. He examines how these strategies can be used to forge current biocontainment project plans to get the required capacities in place quickly and at low cost.
