Don Jones profiles the BSL-3 laboratory and BSL-3Ag large animal components of this hallmark project illustrating how USDA's early benchmarking and mock-up efforts contributed to design and construction details. He also details how biosafety risk analysis and examination of material, animal, and people flows across containment barriers shaped big project decisions including planning concepts and waste disposal systems, plus key aspects of an effective commissioning and operational start-up program.
