Forum E: Wise vs. unwise value engineering decisions on animal facilities

Every research animal facility project has program-vs-cost issues, and that’s where value engineering comes into play. But there are wise VE decisions and there are unwise ones. Here session leaders examine the University of Missouri’s newly opened Research Animal Diagnostic Facility through the lens of value engineering. They set out design, construction, and MEP details, value engineering issues, and final decision-making in four major program-vs-cost decision areas: 1) the capacity for future facility expansion, 2) present capacity for BSL-rated research operations, 3) interstitial space for maintenance in barrier facilities, and 4) standby electrical power.

This session is approved for AIA continuing education credit and qualifies for HSW units.

Leaders:

  • Gregory S. Lattig, AIA -- Senior Principal, The Clark Enersen Partners
  • Timothy J. Reynolds, PE -- Senior Principal, The Clark Enersen Partners
  • Andrew G. Stepp -- Associate Principal, The Clark Enersen Partners

Schedule:
