Animal research facilities are now being renovated, upgraded, and expanded to meet new business model and operating efficiency objectives. Steve Freson and Christopher Kronser profile key elements of these new animal research business models and operationally efficient plans, and they demonstrate specific project details of completed renovation, upgrade, and expansion projects for barrier, conventional, and biocontainment animal facilities. They illustrate project outcomes at pharmaceutical, contract research, and academic institutions in terms of process flow, animal health, flexibility, multi-specie capacity, facility utilization, mechanical systems, and operating cost performance.
