The expansion of an existing, occupied vivarium adds major requirements for operational continuity, research environment control, and construction logistics to a host of complex facility and system integration issues. Session leaders illustrate here the decision-making, design, plan, construction implementation strategy, and lessons learned from several owners including Rockefeller University's animal facility expansion project, and they examine critical details of vibration, acoustics, air intake and exhaust, and logistical solutions for construction activity with on-going science program operations. They also set out details of MEP system integration solutions in restricted floor-to-floor space with provisions for system maintenance access.
This session has been approved for AIA continuing education credit and qualifies for HSW units.
