General Session: Lean, mission-complexity-based staffing models for facilities management

The question, “What level of FM staffing is required to support the institutional mission?” is a very good one to ask and one that resonates with top management’s lean thinking and vocabulary. Mission-based headcount analysis answers that question by correlating staffing levels with physical and operational characteristics of particular FM missions. Steve Westfall illustrates the use of mission-based data on 86 FM organizations to plan and test staffing models. He demonstrates staffing impacts of the size of population served, service menus, types of space, occupancy density, churn, building-portfolio age, technology investments, outsourcing, leasing, and more.

Session Leader:
  • Steven L. Westfall, PhD , President - Tradeline, Inc.
