The building had previously been occupied by a subsidiary company that vacated in 2003. The driver for the Building D project was a need for updated Quality Assurance laboratories and a desire to consolidate all other QC and QA lab and office functions into a single facility.
As part of the consolidation, a new ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000) QA sterility suite and new ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000) Cell Banking labs were constructed on the second floor. In addition to the interior improvements, the project included a major seismic upgrade, a new roof, and new HVAC systems.
