Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)
Published February 2004
A type of microscope that uses magnetic lenses to transmit a beam of electrons through an object; the electrons are then focused on a fluorescent screen to form an enlarged image. A Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) passes the electron beam through a very thin slice of a specimen. A Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) looks at the exterior of a specimen. A Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM) can produce a magnification of 90 million times. |
