Cellular Raceway
Published February 2000
A single-level in floor
distribution system for power, lighting, electronic and communications
systems that is either embedded in the concrete or included as part of
the structural load-carrying floor member of the building. Two- or
three-celled metal ducts spaced at regular intervals (usually 5 feet)
form channels for distributing cables to workstations. This system often
uses an open header trench that is covered after the wiring is in place.
Header or trenchducts connect distribution runs, which are typically on
5- or 6-foot centers. Preset inserts are on 2- to 2 1/2-foot centers to
allow for activations under desks. Activations are accomplished in
recessed, flush or pedestal configurations at preset locations. See also
Underfloor Raceway and Metal Raceway.
