Internal Rate of Return

The annual discount rate which makes the present value of future cash flow equal to the actual initial investment outlay for a particular project. Projects with high internal rates of return make better use of capital than projects with low internal rates of return. Also called "Equalizing Rate of Discount" or "Return on Investment" (ROI).
