One one-millionth (10-6) of a meter;
approximately 40 microinches. Used predominantly in Europe as a measure
for line widths and vibration tolerances in the semiconductor field.
(Note: the terms "micron" and "microinch" are commonly confused. A
vibration standard of 20 microinch displacement is the same as a half
micron.)
