A set of curves used to rate the relative acceptability or intrusiveness of sounds in buildings. Values below 25 are very quiet, 25 to 40 are normal and above 40 are generally too noisy for office criteria. For adequate speech privacy, an NC value near 40 is maintained usually with an electronic masking system. Current criteria are called Room Criterion (RC) Curves, but NC is still widely accepted.
