NRC refers to the absorption capability of sound absorption material used in the work environment. A 0.80 to 0.85 rating is average. NRC readings miss sounds below 250 Hertz and above 2,000 Hertz. Because of conflicting noise sources in open office plans, it is difficult to get a reliable NRC reading for materials used in open offices. Speech Privacy Noise Isolation Class (NIC') is the more accurate measure for open office absorption elements.
