Variable Air Volume (VAV)

Published February 2000

An HVAC system in which a local thermostat controls room temperature by controlling the volume of fixed-temperature air (heated or cooled) delivered to the room. An advantage of VAV is its operating and first-cost economies. A disadvantage is that fresh air circulation is reduced when the required temperature setting has been reached.
