In the pre-manufactured building industry, a weld plate attaches a modular building to a permanent foundation and provides seismic resistance. The weld plate is a 6" x 9" x 3/8" steel plate with hooks that is placed in wet cement. When it hardens, it becomes a homogeneous part of the foundation. The steel frame of the building is then welded to it. The number of weld plates, their location and the number of welds depends on the seismic zone, occupancy rating, wind and snow load, soil-bearing pressure and size of the building.
