Equivalent Lineal Feet (ELF)

The length of floor space occupied by permanent apparatus (such as hoods and lab benches) and moveable items used on a regular basis (such as carts and refrigerators). ELF is a measure of usable work area used as an architectural programming guide or a method of facility evaluation in facilities where personnel access to multiple work surfaces is an important operating criteria.
