Not to be confused with an air lock, a chamber located between a contamination controlled area and the outside environment. Personnel wearing appropriate protective clothing stand within the shower and allow the air jets to blow on them for a predetermined amount of time. Contaminants are blown off. Air showers are equipped with recirculating exhaust sytems that HEPA filter the air before it's return to the chamber. Doors are interlocked to prevent entry/exit before the process is complete.
