Facilities Engineer The Jackson Laboratory Location: Bar Harbor, ME Description:
The Jackson Laboratory has an immediate opening for a highly motivated, organized, and customer service oriented professional to fill the position of Facilities Engineer. This position will take a leadership role in the renovation and expansion of laboratory, vivarium, and associated facilities currently totaling 700kgsf. The successful candidate will be accountable for:
• Providing a full range of advanced professional architectural engineering services in support of campus wide physical plant construction/repair/renovation programs.
• Providing preliminary surveys and preparation of schematic drawings for new construction and renovations. Planning and developing baseline project budgets and schedules and developing appropriate project implementation strategies for their successful completion.
• Directing, oversight, review, and approval of external engineering design and planning consultants ensuring that architectural and engineering designs are consistent with client and institutional needs, engineering codes and standards, and all relevant regulations.
• Creation and administration of construction contracts and specifications.
• Provision of professional Project Management for comprehensive engineering design and construction projects with values up to $10M, including client programming, establishment of project parameters, leading design efforts, and maintaining project scope, schedule, and budget control.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field along with a minimum of seven (7) years direct experience in a Facilities Engineering or Construction Management role with increasing responsibility. Formal Project Management, advanced client programming, AutoCad, strong interpersonal and both written and oral communication skills, and ability to self-organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments are required. In addition, strong laboratory and/or vivarium design experience, knowledge of building construction processes and procedures, MS Project or related software, and MS office desktop skills are necessary. Previous laboratory and/or vivarium design experience within an institutional/educational Facilities Engineering department will be highly regarded.
