Primary Duties
Manages capital projects and the overall capital program for the Public Health Laboratory in Shoreline.Coordinates, directs and reviews the development of designs and specifications by private design firms for the construction of state buildings and similar construction projects.Coordinates and directs the planning, design, cost control, scheduling, and permitting of complex building projects.Develops cost estimates and cost analyses required for capital budget forecasts, construction project management, facilities planning, conceptual studies, and bid comparison of projects for design and construction of buildings and other capital projects.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with principles and practices of engineering disciplines related to design of buildings and systems
Demonstrated experience with principles and practices of basic architectural and planning disciplines related to design of buildings and systems
Demonstrated experience with construction practices and standards
Demonstrated experience with project management and planning and cost and benefit analysis
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and professional registration in mechanical engineering or architecutre and five (5) years of experience in management of design or construction of buildng projects.
Ten (10) years of experience in management of design and construction of building projects.
Demonstrated experience with laboratory and design standards and practices.
Demonstrated experience managing architectural and engineering design firm staff.
Demonstrated experience with Washington State Public Works contracting practices and procedures.
Demonstrated experience with construction scheduling, cost estimating and control, and contract bid practices.
Demonstrated experience working with or supervising project consultants and conctractors.
Demonstrated experience with National and State building codes and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated experience with HVAC system design principles and practices.
Demonstrated expereince with contractor dispute resolution.
Conditions of Employment
Willing and able to work in excess of 40 hours per week and outside of core business hours, including weekends and holidays.
Willing and able to occasionally travel out of state.
Willing and able to work in areas of confined space.
Willing and able to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) such as respirators.
