Manager of Engineering Services Harvard University Location: Cambridge, MA Description:
Engineering & Utilities (E&U) is responsible for Harvard's complex utility infrastructure, managing the purchase and operation of energy resources, and providing specialized engineering and technical services for the Cambridge and Allston campuses. The group manages Harvard's utilities systems (steam, electric power, natural gas, fuel oil, water and sewer), operates the Blackstone Steam Plant and the Cambridge campus chilled water plant, and provides professional engineering and technical services. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the provision of all engineering services (design, technical support, and project management/delivery) in support of the ongoing operations, maintenance, renovation, and expansion of all central utility systems and services provided by Engineering & Utilities (E&U), and project design review of major capital building renovation and construction projects throughout the University. Responsible for overseeing all capital projects managed/delivered by the Engineering Group, including the development and management of project and construction strategies, project budget, project schedule, project communications, project reviews and approvals, management of consultant and contractor selection processes, consultant/contractor performance, negotiation of contracts, and delivering projects and services on time, within budget, and meeting all associated milestones, expectations, and deliverables. Responsible for the overall financial integrity of the Engineering group; staffing, staff development, mentoring, performance management, and leadership to ensure the integrity and success of the division; and the development and maintenance of related and other business plans, analyses, reports, and studies as required/assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
At least ten years related professional and engineering management experience & demonstrated record of increasingly responsible managerial positions in either an institutional or industrial utility environment. Requires experience in a customer-oriented, internal-service business, ability to work well as a team member, & a demonstrated ability to build relationships with a broad spectrum of customers. Must have a BS in Engineering, be adept in mechanical and electrical disciplines, and be a registered Professional Engineer. Strong organizational, financial, project management, interpersonal, and management skills required. Ability to interact effectively in an academic environment, & communicate effectively in both spoken and written communication with a diverse audience. Possess high energy,creativity, flexiblity, be tolerant to change, ambiguity & differences of opinion. Must be self-motivated and enthusiastic, able to think and work independently, be a team player, have sound judgment skills, & be able to delegate effectively. Must be skilled at planning, coordination, integration, managing people as well as projects, working with consultants. Must be proficient in the use of computers
