The University of Minnesota’s Facilities Management Department is responsible for the physical assets of the University to ensure a quality environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors in support of the University’s mission of teaching, research and outreach.Facilities Management maintains 23 million square feet, currently divided into 5 geographic areas, with an annual budget of $175 million.We employ 1,100 employees, represented by 22 unions. Facilities Management is undergoing a Transformation, where we will create multi-disciplinary teams to serve our customer in 4 new districts.Our goal is to transform into a more customer-focused, accountable culture which delivers services in a cost effective and efficient manner.
As a result of the Transformation, The University of Minnesota Facilities Management department is currently accepting applications for the position of Central Services Director.
Position Description:
The Central Services Director will report to the Associate Vice President of Facilities Management and will have overall responsibility for centrally delivered services which include land care, custodial services administration, waste management, recycling, central maintenance services, employee health, safety and risk management, and technical shops.This position will promote customer-focused service in conjunction with other departments.In addition, the Central Services Director will proactively identify areas for improvement and implement process changes to achieve cost savings, increase efficiencies, and eliminate process waste.The individual in this role will serve as a key staff member of Facilities Management’s senior management team in the development of strategic plans which support institutional goals implemented through operational business units.This role will partner with facilities operations and other University Services divisions, to support the academic, research and outreach mission of the institution.
Minimum Qualifications:
·Education: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
·Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience in a leadership role, managing facilities operations in a large institution or commercial facility.
·Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and direct the activities of others towards the accomplishment of goals.
·Elevator maintenance, Abatement, Signs and Graphics, Fire Alarm and Suppression Testing, Land care, Employee Health and Safety, Risk Management or Waste Management experience preferred.
·Previous experience managing employees in a union environment strongly preferred.
