SAIC-Frederick, Inc., a subsidiary of SAIC, is the Operations and Technical Support Contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick (NCI-Frederick) a federally funded research and development center. SAIC-Frederick, Inc. is one of four related NCI contracts on-site and serves as the infrastructure support for the entire center. The contract is the largest single research contract awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and it is the department's only Government-owned, contractor-operated facility contract.
SAIC-Frederick, Inc. is currently searching for a Mechanical Engineer V to join our Facilities Engineering group serving a 110 building research and development campus. Will work on project teams with other engineers and designers to define user requirements, develop scope-of-work and prepare designs, plans and specifications for Laboratory, Office, Utility and Animal Facilities. Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure a completely operational system. Provides technical guidance to user personnel, maintenance shops, A’s and contractors. Performs special studies and evaluations of existing facilities and utilities. Helps maintenance staff troubleshoot particularly difficult maintenance issues.
REQUIRES SKILLS: Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university or Professional Engineer designation. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.
In addition to education requirements, a minimum of eight (8) years experience in engineering design and applications relating to building systems, utilities, building renovations and new construction, preferably in life science and research facilities. Ability to perform on-site technical inspections of equipment and systems to ensure design and specification compliance. Ability to design mechanical, HVAC/R, plumbing, fire protection and process piping systems. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
DESIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of pharmaceutical and biotechnology process equipment and utilities. Knowledge of cGMP design requirements. Experience in the design, maintenance and operation of purified water systems. Knowledge of computer modeling software. Professional Engineer and LEED AP preferred.
