Description: The position will be responsible for the client management and team leadership for the delivery of Science + Technology projects. Projects will include research and development laboratories for higher education, national laboratory, non-profit institutions and private sector clients. Projects may include specialized facilities for advanced imaging, biocontainment, cleanrooms, pilot plants, manufacturing facilities, and related support facilities such as administrative offices, central utility plants, data centers, etc. Projects assignments will largely be within the Western Region of the United States.
Specific Project Management Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for maintaining strong relationships with multiple clients in the Science + Technology Market, beginning with pre-positioning activities, continuing through the life of project execution and beyond for future work Responsibilities include: (1) collaborating with the Marketing Principal and staff with development and implementation of marketing initiatives; (2) participation in project-specific pursuit activities such as qualifications and project interviews; (3) Leading project teams with the preparation, negotiation and award of project contracts; (4) client management throughout project execution cycles; (5) design team leadership throughout projects for conformance to client expectations for technical/quality, financial and schedule performance; (6) team leadership during project closeout and post-occupancy evaluations; (7) client relations following completion of projects.
The position will provide leadership of concurrent projects and related multidisciplinary teams- planning, directing, coordinating, and monitoring all aspects of a variety of projects, including feasibility studies, facility assessments, renovation/upgrades projects, and new “Greenfield� projects.
This position will have overall responsibility for project team performance and project success, and will therefore work closely with assigned Project Managers to meet client expectations. This position will work closely with the Regional Controller and Managing Principal(s) for project financial reviews.
Business Development Responsibilities: Experience as a part of core teams in marketing and securing projects is required. This position will work closely with the Regional Director, Marketing and Managing Principal(s) to formulate and implement Science + Technology marketing initiatives, including: targeted client pre-positioning strategies; assistance in the preparation of capture plans for specific project pursuits; sales calls and meetings; presentations at industry conferences, seminars ands trade shows, and other related business development activities. Large Project Experience: Experience on large scale laboratory projects is required. The candidate should have managed at least three major projects, greater than $75 million each, to completion for public, private and/or institutional clients.
Experience Required:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Architecture.
Architectural registration required;
California registration preferred.
15+ years of experience preferred in Science + Technology projects, preferably including experience with biosciences related projects.
Experience with vivarium and cGMP facilities is beneficial.
Strong team leadership, mentoring, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
Computer literate with MS Office, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation beneficial.
Experience and/or interest in sustainable design, LEED desired but not required.
