One of the world’s top institutions of higher education, like many of its peers, has an active real estate and building program. As a result, this organization’s real estate group is taxed and seeks additional staff. One of the most critical positions in the department is Project Manager. Charged with overseeing the life of a building project from initial programming to punch list, Project Managers are the single-point-of-contact for consultants, faculty, donors, University administrators and departmental users.
As one of 20+ Project Managers located in the Bay Area, you’d ultimately be responsible for about 10 different projects at various stages of completion. Initially, you’d be responsible for overseeing a brand new complex for one of the Universities graduate schools, working with one of the best architects in the country. This high-visibility position will be a challenge, but you’d be able to demonstrate your skills quickly.
Successful candidates must have strong communication and leadership skills since they will work with a wide range of constituencies over time and must effectively coordinate the role of each. Diplomacy is a must, as is coolness under pressure. The department of over 300 people is a well-run, efficient, yet sensitive organization with very high standards. They are currently embarking on a sustainability initiative that is likely to be one of the best programs of its type in the world.
