The Office of Campus Planning and Facilities at BoiseStateUniversity seeks a Director of Architectural and Engineering Services (AES).The Director will provide leadership and direction for design and construction services in support of all the University’s capital projects through direct management oversight of the AES group.This position will interface with other university departments in campus planning and the state Division of Public Works (DPW) on project implementation.
BoiseStateUniversity is in the midst of an exciting period of rapid growth and development as a metropolitan research university in Idaho’s capital city.The University has embarked on a strategic direction that will result in significant changes to our campus and facilities over the next 10 years and seeks an individual with strong project management and leadership skills to serve in the position of Director, Architectural and Engineering Services to help implement this vision.Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Campus Planning & Facilities, this position is responsible for oversight and coordination of all design and construction activities supporting the implementation of the Campus Master Plan.
BoiseState is Idaho’s metropolitan research university and the largest university in Idaho with an all-time state enrollment record of 19,540 students.BoiseState is located in the state’s population center and capital city, a hub of government, business, the arts, health care, industry and technology.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate and monitor the design, and construction of all capital, repair & alteration, and remodeling projects for the University and all auxiliary units.Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Campus Planning & Facilities (AVP), the Director will develop and coordinate project design parameters and scopes for design consultants.Evaluate/recommend project priorities to the AVP.Provide technical expertise in developing project descriptions and monitor project budget allocations and ensure projects comply with the Campus Master Plan and Design Guidelines.Supervise AES staff and provide oversight management of project managers.Serve as liaison to Division of Public Works and the Permanent Building Fund Advisory Council regarding all design and construction activities at the University.Develop, monitor, upgrade and oversee project tracking, scheduling, resource protocols and processes for all unit activities with emphasis on construction related issues.Ensure timely and accurate communication of all construction and design impacts to the university community.Maintain complete understanding of all AES project activities in order to communicate and respond effectively to issues as they develop.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture and professional licensure (architecture or engineering) is required; a master’s degree in architecture or planning is preferred.A minimum of ten years of experience, with at least five years directly-related activities in a higher education setting, is required.Candidate must have demonstrable knowledge in statutes and codes regulating building design and construction; advanced knowledge of building construction, ability to manage complex relationships and oversight systems in a higher education environment; advanced analytical skills in the use of personal computers and applicable software; demonstrate knowledge of supervisory principles/practices; excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a diverse community and foster a cooperative work environment.
Salary and Benefits
The Director of Architecture and Engineering Services, is a 12-month full-time professional position; final salary commensurate with education and experience.BoiseStateUniversity offers a competitive benefits package, including 24 vacation and 12 sick days per year, health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, and retirement benefits.
