The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX (UTMB) seeks candidates for the position of Associate Director of Facilities Operations for the Galveston National Laboratory.
UTMB is Texas’ only multi-categorical health referral center operating eight hospitals, eighty-five clinics, four schools, three research institutes and over fourteen centers located on the Texas gulf coast. This position would be responsible for the day-to-day operation and decisions required to assure that the Galveston National Laboratory is functioning safely and efficiently. As one of two National Biocontainment Laboratories to be constructed under grants awarded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases/National Institutes of Health (NIAID/NIH), the Galveston National Laboratory (GNL) will provide much-needed research space to develop therapies, vaccines and diagnostic tests for naturally occurring emerging diseases such as SARS and West Nile encephalitis, as well as for viral and bacterial agents that might be employed by terrorists.
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. Seven years of managing facilities with complex controls and high security requirements. Preference will be given to those applicants who have ten years experience managing facilities with complex controls and high security requirements. Significant BSL3 and BSL4 biocontainment facility operational experience and managing multiple assignments to a successful conclusion are skills and experiences highly desirable in this position. Additionally, the ability to work with UTMB senior leadership and GNL scientific leadership, as well as the ability to develop staff into effective team members are considered key attributes that would contribute to an individual’s success in this position.
