Senior Architect/Planner Partners HealthCare System Location: Boston, MA Description:
General Summary:
Unique opportunity for experienced healthcare architect/planner to help a national healthcare leader continuously expand and improve its facilities. Under the general direction of the Director and/or Associate Director of Planning and Construction, MGH, the Senior Architect/Planner provides professional architectural and planning services for hospital capital improvement projects, including new construction, renovation and relocation projects. The Senior Architect/Planner consults with hospital management to determine project program, analyzes feasibility of alternative spaces, develops strategy for space acquisition and development, implements selected projects, and prepares long-term capital and space planning analyses and reports.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists hospital administration in developing and implementing hospital master plans. Gathers and evaluates data pertaining to physical, functional and operational planning of projects and prepares reports indicating findings. Consults with management to determine project priorities and develop initial programs, and makes recommendations on space utilization and department location.
Conducts feasibility studies for proposed capital improvement projects and makes recommendations as to advisability. Confers with department heads, hospital administration, professional engineers and contractors regarding proposed projects. Develops project scopes from initial discussions to final form.
Facilitates the transition of projects from planning to project management. Works in parallel with project managers to provide design review and technical input throughout the design process.
Assists in the designer selection process for all budgeted capital improvement projects.
Manages project teams in the preparation of schematic designs, design development drawings, construction specifications, and bidding and construction documents for specific projects as assigned.
Assists in the development and implementation of hospital-wide standard specifications for finishes, lighting and furniture.
Assists in the development of the annual capital budget for proposed capital improvement projects.
Answers inquiries pertaining to space utilization, code issues, square footages, cost estimates and finishes.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
Performs all other duties and assignments as requested.
Qualifications:
B.S., B.A., or B.Arch in Architecture; Masters Degree preferred.
Current state registration as an Architect.
Approximately 10 to 15 years of progressively more responsible work experience in programming, architectural design, building construction, cost estimating, project management and administration of professional services.
Hospital and/or academic medical center design and project management experience preferred. Familiarity with mission, goals and operations of healthcare institutions.
Skills and Abilities:
Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with and between other architects, project managers, department heads, administrators, consultants and contractors.
Analytical skills necessary to evaluate data and proposals, develop project ideas and conduct feasibility studies effectively.
Ability to pay close attention to detail while simultaneously responding to urgent requests.
Excellent verbal, written and problem solving skills.
Ability to take initiative, work independently and follow solutions through to completion.
Demonstrated ability to successfully complete projects within a complex institutional environment with multiple objectives and stakeholders.
Advanced computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Project.
Strong team management and/or supervisory skills.
Familiarity with database development, space management software, CADD and/or GIS.
