Description: HDR Architecture is currently in need of a Laboratory Programmer/Planner to work as part of our rapidly growing Science and Technology business segment team based out of Alexandria, VA. The Laboratory Programmer/Planner will be responsible for the programming, planning and design of laboratories and cleanrooms, with a special focus on nanotechnology, electrical, electronics, metrology, chemical, and biological laboratories. They will lead user group programming sessions and translate client’s needs into functional technical spaces, and determine space demand and capacity. On a daily basis they will collect data, analyze project goals and objectives, and organize them to assist other A/E disciplines involved in the design process, including specialty consultants. The Laboratory Programmer/Planner will also evaluate specific types of lab equipment, research tools, cabinetry and casework, and aid our clients in selecting proper casework and equipment for their individual laboratory environments. They will also have a significant understanding of FDA criteria for cGMP and cGLP manufacturing and laboratory space, and participate in marketing efforts and promoting HDR within the industry on a regular basis.
Experience Required:
Bachelors or Masters in Architecture and registration is preferred, but not required. Scientific background required and 10+ year’s applicable lab planning and clean room experience is required. Candidate must have strong presentation skills and solid verbal and writing abilities with demonstrated understanding of lab planning concepts, various lab furniture systems, and a general understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems. An ideal candidate would be fluent is graphics, CADD, spreadsheets and database programs.
Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required."
