The Utility Manager position is a salaried, professional position reporting directly to the Director of Physical Facilities Business Management. The Utility Manger will oversee the University's activities to reduce energy costs and control price risk. This position will be responsible for directing the energy purchasing (some 62 million kilowatt hours of electricity, 240,000 decatherms of natural gas, and 7000 tons of bituminous coal, plus water and sewer accounts). He/She will direct the development of risk management strategies, and the air quality permitting program for the university, coordinating a campus-wide energy management/reduction program, increasing reliability and securing grants for energy savings measures. Bachelor Degree in Finance, Engineering or related field required. Three years of Utility Management required; five years preferred. Proficient in the commodity markets of natural gas, electricity, propane, water, sanitary service, and coal and wood required. Three years experience in electricity and natural gas procurement or marketing strongly preferred. Advanced training in electrical and natural gas purchasing strongly preferred. Registration as a Professional Engineer preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills preferred. Working knowledge of Demand Side Management programs strongly preferred. Computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office 2000 Applications (i.e. Excel & Word) preferred. University facilities experience preferred. Experience with Central Heating and/or Generation facilities strongly preferred. Experience with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) reporting and emission standards strongly preferred Experience with NYPA, NYSERDA, and NYISO strongly preferred. Experience with a centralized energy management system strongly preferred. Salary: $60-65K commensurate w/exp & qualifs. Excellent NYS benefit pkg.
